Driver hits two teens on sidewalk in North Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Two teenagers were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a car while walking on a sidewalk in North Las Vegas.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. on Gliding Eagle Road near Black Oaks Street.
Police said the pedestrians, a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy, were on a sidewalk when they were struck. Both were taken to University Medical Center to be treated for injuries described as serious to critical.
Witnesseses said the driver was speeding through the neighborhood when he lost control of the car, striking the two teens.
He was later identified as 19-year-old Cristian Ivan Diaz. He was arrested and jailed for failure to maintain a travel lane and failure to obtain a Nevada driver's license within 30 days. Police expect Diaz to face additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation.
A passenger in Diaz's car, 18-year-old Ricardo Daniel Velasquez, was also arrested and booked on possession of marijuana and destruction of evidence.
Police say both Diaz and Velasquez are North Las Vegas residents.
