Deadly year on the roads has Metro hoping for better 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Metro is trying to determine what more they can do after a deadly year on the road.
Metro officers told Action News over and over throughout the year, many of these accidents were avoidable. Especially most of the 40 auto-pedestrian fatalities. While Metro says they have ramped up traffic citations, including jaywalking tickets, when it gets as bad as this past year they can only hope their message will finally stick.
"I think what it comes down to is reminding everyone that when you're out there driving you're sharing the roads. We're sharing the roads with pedestrians. We're sharing the roads with other drivers," says Officer Jose Hernandez.
The number of traffic fatalities aren't the only alarming numbers. Metro says they have already made 10,000 DUI arrests this year, and say they are ready to make more in order to save lives. Officers will be in full force on the roads heading into this New Year's Eve weekend.
