Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A powerful storm that caused blizzard-like conditions in the Midwest is heading to the northeast now.

And that storm has stranded travelers all over the country.

More than 1,700 flights were canceled on Wednesday and today may not be much better with snow, freezing rain and strong winds battering the northeast.

It is causing a domino effect around the country.

People flying into Las Vegas have had to endure long delays before arriving here. One pilot apologized to passengers on a flight from Dallas to Las Vegas after they sat on the tarmac for five hours waiting to depart.

And passengers in Atlanta were trying to keep their cool as they waited for word on their flights.

It is not just air travel that is being effected. Getting around on the ground hasn't been easy for some either.

Motorists in Indianapolis had to deal with white-out conditions. The Indiana Pacers postponed their game against the Chicago Bulls because of severe weather in Indianapolis.
