California detectives investigating death of Las Vegas baby as homicide
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A one-year-old child from Las Vegas has been killed in California City, Calif., according to local authorities.
According to a report from the California City Police Department, officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call that a baby had stopped breathing on Dec. 18.
Officers arrived within two minutes of the call and began performing CPR. The baby was initially transported to Tehachapi Valley Hospital but later transferred to Huntington Memorial Hospital and died a few days later.
Police interviewed several family members who were at the home when the baby stopped breathing and brought in detectives because of inconsistencies that arose during questioning.
An autopsy was performed on Dec. 26 and the coroner determined that the baby died of blunt force trauma. Detective are now investigating the death as a homicide.
The child's name was listed by the coroner's office as one-year-old Aalyiah Jerkins of Las Vegas.
