Henderson opening holiday tree recycling centers
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) -- Henderson is among local agencies encouraging residents to recycle holiday trees.
The city will begin Wednesday accepting trees at self-serve drop-off points at seven locations during regular business hours.
The program runs through Jan. 17 at Acacia Park, Anthem Hills Park, the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex, Mission Hills Park, Morrell Park, Pecos Legacy Park and the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center.
Officials say the city recycled just under 4,000 holiday trees last year.
Recycling reduces the number of trees sent to the landfill, and allows crews to create nutrient-rich mulch for use in planters, parks and landscaping around the city.
Free mulch will also be made available to the public Jan. 5 at Pecos Legacy Park and Jan. 12 at Acacia Demonstration Gardens.
