LAS VEGAS (AP) -- An ex-convict who police in Nevada call a serial rapist and killer is due for arraignment in state court in the cold case slayings of three women in Las Vegas 16 years apart.

Nathaniel Burkett faces murder charges in the April 1978 slaying of 22-year-old Barbara Ann Cox and the separate slayings of 27-year-old Tina Gayle Mitchell and 32-year-old Althea Maria Williams in 1994.

Burkett also faces a felony sexual assault charge in the alleged attack on Mitchell.

Burkett has used several dates of birth that make him 63 or 66.

Prosecutors allege that each woman was strangled and left dead in a West Las Vegas neighborhood not far from Burkett's apartment.

Las Vegas police say DNA evidence links Burkett to the cases. He remains jailed without bail pending trial.
