Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The day after Christmas is among the busiest shopping days of the year.

And for bargain hunters, today's trip to the big box store or online vendor could be very worthwhile. Today's deals may be better that what was offered on Black Friday.

Big retailers are now trying to push out post-Christmas merchandise, hoping to add to their end-of-year totals.

Examples of deals include 44 percent off of a 44-inch television on Amazon.com and a Nikon camera marked down 50 percent to $129 at Best Buy.

So far, it has been less than stellar shopping year.

New figures show sales increased only seven tenths of a percent making 2012 the weakest holiday shopping season since 2008.

Experts blame it on recent national events.

Hurricane Sandy dampened the mood of shoppers in the Northeast. And the Newtown shooting tragedy made the slump even worse. In addition, there is the indecision on Capitol Hill about the fiscal cliff and higher taxes.

Experts say now is a great time to get electronics and winter clothes. Those items will have the biggest post-holiday discounts.

It is also a great time to buy toys and holiday decorations for next year.
