1 person killed, 2 injured during possible home invasion
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man is dead today after an exchange of gunfire this morning during a possible home invasion in the northwest part of the valley, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The shooting happened shortly after 10 a.m. at the La Ventana apartment complex in the 2900 block of North Rainbow Boulevard, near West Cheyenne Avenue.
LVMPD says that the residents of the apartment, a man and woman, heard a knock on the door at about 10 a.m. When they opened the door, four people attempted to force their way in.
Gunfire was exchanged inside the apartment initially and continued in the parking lot. One of the suspects, described only as a black male, was shot.
The other three suspects initially tried to flee the scene in a vehicle but then left on foot. They have not been captured and police do not know if they are armed.
The man that was shot was transported to University Medical Center's Trauma Unit where he died.
The man and woman that lived in the apartment also received minor injuries and were treated. The exact nature of the injuries is not known but they are not believed to be gunshot wounds.
The couple's young child, under the age of one, was not injured during the incident.
The other suspects are described as two black males and one female, all in their 20s.
