Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A new deal between the State Bureau of Consumer Protection and NV Energy may take the weight off your wallet.

The original plan was to charge about $100 to customers who didn't want a smart meter.

A new proposed plan would cut that to $53.

Cusomers would still be hit with an $8 monthly fee, though.

NV Energy has installed more than 1 million smart meters already.

Some customers have criticized the program, say the meters may pose health hazards or invade privacy.
