Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Residents at an apartment complex for seniors are mourning the death of their neighbor after a fire destroyed her home.
Fire fighters combed through a burning apartment building near Sahara and Valley View late Friday night, as thick smoke filled the air around them.
Flashlights were needed to help battle the blaze in the darkness of the night.
Many of the seniors inside fled with just the clothes on their backs, as they watched the fire destroy their home.
“Smoke and fire were coming out fast. I mean it happened so fast it was incredible,” said resident Mike Hines.
Not everyone made it out alright; neighbors heard one woman later died in the hospital after she was badly hurt in the fire.
She was later identified as 66-year-old Carol Sue Krassell of Las Vegas.
The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is helping to provide services to those left homeless, by the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
