Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- An elderly pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday in front of Harrah's Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

69-year-old Zdeno Gunka of Las Vegas was hit by a van, which stayed at the scene following the accident.

The victim was taken to UMC with significant head injuries.

Police said the 2009 Chevy Express van, with 14 occupants, was traveling north on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Gunka was standing on the sidewalk, trying to cross the boulevard. Police believe he walked into the road, against the pedestrian walk signal and was then hit by the van.

Northbound Las Vegas Boulevard was closed and traffic was detoured to Flamingo, while crews investigated.
