Actions taken by CCSD to prevent, respond to tragedy
Clark County, NV (KTNV) -- Superintendent Dwight D. Jones released a statement on actions taken in Clark County schools to prevent and respond to crisis events.
"Losing a life is always difficult; losing the lives of young students is especially hard. Friday's tragedy in Connecticut is cause to take a moment to offer condolences to the families and the entire community impacted by those losses. Here in Clark County, we have crisis prevention plans and are proud to have a dedicated police force who patrol our campuses and are trained to detect threats. We have many security measures that help prevent crime, from the design of our buildings to diligent staff trained to report any suspicious behavior and surveillance systems in place. We cannot predict or prevent every incident in the nation's fifth largest school district, but we assure our parents that student safety is our priority and we are continually reviewing our processes to ensure we remain persistent in our efforts to prevent crime.
Additional actions taken by CCSD to prevent and respond to tragedy:
- All CCSD schools implement lockdown procedures in the event of an emergency.
- CCSD has ParentLink, an automated messaging system that allows school officials to get information to parents quickly and a "community alert system" that quickly sends information to media to help notify our community when needed.
- CCSD also has an entire team of trained counseling professionals who respond when tragedy strikes.
- CCSD strives to educate every student in our schools and understands safety is required for learning and is proud to invest in both crisis perception and response.
