Young woman struck by car near Winterwood Park

UPDATE ON 12/12/12: According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the person that was struck was actually a young woman -- 22-year-old Crystal Hughes. It was originally reported that the victim was a teen girl.

Hughes was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 29-year-old Tessa Serrano of Las Vegas.

Hughes was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The collision is still under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A teen girl was struck by a car near Winterwood Park on Tuesday evening.

Las Vegas police said the teen was hit by a small sedan while crossing the intersection of East Sahara Avenue and Winterwood Boulevard at about 5:20 p.m.

The teen was rushed to Sunrise Trauma with serious injuries.

Police said she was crossing in an intersection at the time of the collision, but it's not clear whether she had the right of way.

The driver of the sedan remained on the scene after the crash.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
