Police: Store manager opens fire on suspected robbers
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Police say a store manager opened fire during an attempted robbery at a popular shopping center on Eastern Avenue, just off Interstate 215.
It happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Home Consignment Store.
Witnesses told detectives that the two male suspects came in with their faces covered and began smashing jewelry cases with a hammer. Detectives are working to determine how much of the jewelry was stolen.
"The store manager told her employees to go out the back entrance of the store," said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sgt. Steve Junge. "Then she yelled for the suspects to stop, pulled out a gun from behind the counter, and fired two rounds in their direction. She thought she hit one of them, but wasn't sure."
The suspects got away in a stolen champagne-colored Dodge pickup truck. Investigators later found that truck near Boulder Station, but the suspects were gone.
"There were drops of blood inside the store, which could have been from a gunshot wound or the broken glass," Sgt. Junge says. "We're hoping those traces of blood help lead us to the suspects."
Police say the same store was robbed just last month in a similar fashion. Now, they're looking at whether the two robberies could be connected.
The suspects are still on the loose.
