Local non-profit for at-risk youth to close after financial troubles
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It's not only a place for local at-risk youth to blow off steam, but also learn a few things about life and how to succeed. Now, The Richard Steele Community Center is at risk of closing its doors.
Crucial state funding was not renewed for the non-profit and now nearly 200 kids won't have this after school program to turn to.
At Richard Steele, kids learn discipline and positive thinking through the art of boxing. But the center also provides them with educational opportunities to carry out a healthy lifestyle.
"They change. I've seen them change right before my eyes," said Former Pro Boxing Referee Richard Steele. "I've picked them up from juvenile detention and here they are ready to graduate from high school and making a better role model for the other kids. And they become leaders."
