Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A 16-year-old Las Vegas boy was killed in a crash Saturday night.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. on Jones Boulevard near the intersection of Empire Circle.

Las Vegas Police said the 16-year-old was driving a 1994 Honda Civic and traveling south on Jones, approaching Empire Circle.

Another vehicle, possibly an SUV or mini-van, was also traveling south on Jones, just ahead of the Honda.

The teen entered the center two-way turn lane to pass the unidentified vehicle on the left.

When he tried to re-enter the travel lane, it made contact with the front of the unidentified vehicle. The contact caused the teen to lose control. His vehicle went off the road and hit a chain link fence and concrete wall.

Both occupants in the Honda sustained injuries and were transported to UMC Trauma.

At UMC, the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead. He was later identified as Eddie Ruiz of Las Vegas by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The passenger, also a 16-year-old male from Las Vegas, was last listed in serious condition.

The driver of the unidentified vehicle fled the scene of the collision and is wanted for questioning.

This is the 103rd traffic related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction for 2012.

Family of the teen are mourning his loss, and told Action News they want to know why the other driver did not stop after the crash.
