Man in wheelchair killed crossing southwest Valley street
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a car while crossing a southwest Valley street on Thursday.
The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. when 58-year-old Darrell Stevens of Las Vegas, who was in a wheelchair, tried crossing South Jones Boulevard near West Moberly Avenue.
Stevens was not in a marked crosswalk and was struck by an oncoming black sedan. He was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.
Police shut down the area surrounding crash site to traffic as they investigated the fatal accident.
This is the 102nd traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction in 2012.
