Local teacher sentenced to prison in drunk driving case
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A former school teacher charged with drunk driving was sentenced in court Wednesday.
Noel Lardeo was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and will be eligible for parole after six years.
Lardeo will also get credit for the more than 300 days she has already served.
Authorities said in Feb. 2012, she slammed into a bus stop, severely injuring a young male, who was 15-years-old at the time.
According to Lardeo's arrest report, Las Vegas Police observed two open, partially-consumed containers of vodka in her car.
The report also described how witnesses told police Lardeo had run a red light and was speeding.
The teen who was hit, Conan Obenchain, had his left leg amputated. Obenchain was not in the courtroom for sentencing, but his father was. He said Conan opted to attend school, trying to maintain a sense of normalcy in his life.
Conan's family tells Action News that his right leg remains not fully functional, and may never be.
Lardeo will be required to pay the $82,000 remaining of the victim's medical bills. The cost of bills totaled more than $600,000 but insurance paid the majority.
