Local advocates fight for changes to coroner's inquest process
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Today is the day several community groups are trying to resurrect the coroner's inquest process through the Clark County Commission.
They're asking commissioners to make a change to the system and county commissioners will discuss the possibility of adding a public ombudsman.
The ombundsman would ask questions on behalf of the families of the dead.
The ACLU is one of the groups pushing for a change to the process.
Spokesman Allen Lichtenstein said it's the best way to keep the process open and transparent.
"There is no accountability, there is no transparency, because it's just the DA and the Sheriff who are controlling all the information that comes out," Lichtenstein said.
Commissioners are discussing the issue today. If a vote happens, it would take place during a later meeting.
