Mom, stepfather accused in child abuse death appear in court
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The local mother and stepfather appeared in court Tuesday morning, charged in the death of a 7-year-old boy.
Dina Palmer and Markiece Palmer are accused of child abuse and murder following the death of Dina's son, Roderick Arrington or 'RJ.'
During the court appearance, a bail hearing was set for Thursday. Both Dina and Markiece were appointed a public defender.
According to police paperwork, the Palmers took custody of her son a few months ago. Prior to that, the boy had been living with his natural father and grandmother in another state.
The child was rushed to University Medical Center on Nov. 29 because he was unresponsive. Medical staff called the police after discovering signs of abuse, new and old.
According to the police report, the stepfather admitted to police that he had hit the child on several occasions. Reasons given where because the child did not read the Bible or complete his homework.
Both the mother and stepfather are being charged with child abuse and murder.
They are currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
