Another big-name retailer joins The Shops at Summerlin
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Some exciting news for a local shopping center that's been on hold for years.
Construction of the project known as The Shops at Summerlin stalled four years ago when the economy took a nose dive. The steel skeleton of the building still sits off the 215 beltway, near Red Rock Casino.
But now, it's getting new life. The project's developer, The Howard Hughes Corporation, announced that the department store, Dillard's, will be joining Macy's as an anchor tenant.
The Shops at Summerlin will be an open-air complex with more than 125 stores and restaurants. It will also include a nine-story office building.
"The fact that these large department stores are willing to invest huge amounts of capital, means we're coming back," says Tom Warden, the Senior Vice President of Community & Government Relations for the Howard Hughes Corporation. "More than 1,700 people are going to be employed in building this center, and once it's open, this place will employ 2,000 people."
The Shops at Summerlin will open in late 2014. Construction is supposed to begin within the next few months.
