Colder storm blunts Truckee River flood threat
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- The flood threat is over on the Truckee River in Nevada and California.
National Weather Service forecaster Dawn Fishler says a powerful storm delivered more snow and less rainfall Sunday to the Sierra than forecast, blunting the flood danger on the Truckee.
She says all flood warnings have been lifted on the river, and the Truckee is now expected to crest below flood stage at Truckee, Calif., Reno and Sparks.
Fishler says the region "dodged a bullet" when a cold front arrived several hours earlier than expected and caused snow levels to drop lower in elevation than forecast.
Forecasters originally had called for major flooding at Truckee and minor to moderate flooding at Reno and Sparks.
