Family court judge suspended, fraud trial date set
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline has suspended a Las Vegas-area family court judge accused of participating in a $3 million investment fraud scheme.
The commission said Thursday it was suspending Clark County Family Court Judge Steven Jones with pay until the matter is resolved. A federal trial date has been set next summer for Jones and five other people.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that federal prosecutors told defense attorneys they expect to turn over 50,000 pages of documents, including FBI reports and a number of audiotapes, before trial.
Jones is accused of using the power of his office to help his former brother-in-law, Thomas Cecrle Jr., and the others solicit investors.
All six defendants have pleaded not guilty.
