Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Kids in Clark County will soon be turning the pages of thousands of brand new books. Thanks to Spread the Word Nevada and First Book, a massive book distribution took place this morning.

"You know we motivate them to read everyday, but when they have their own book it's really exciting for them," said 1st grade teacher Courtney Dunaway.

She was picking up 700 brand new books that will go to students at, her school, C.T. Sewell in Henderson. Some of those students have never owned a book.

"It's incredible, especially the school that we are at, It's really going to help our kids," she said. "We get to distribute them, it's going to mean so much to them."

Not only schools, but local children's organizations loaded up boxes of hundreds of free new books. Which will go to mostly disadvantaged kids.

It's all made possible by Spread the Word Nevada and the national organization, First Book. It's the largest distribution they've ever held in Southern Nevada.

475 thousand brand new books will make their way into the hands of thousands in Clark County.

"You can just see their eyes light up when they get that book. They carry it around. They sleep with it. They take it to school the next day. They want to read it aloud in class. It's just really great to see that passion for reading which can turn into passion for learning which can turn into great things when you get kids started at a really young age," said Kate Childs of First Book.
