Council wants probe of Boulder City police chief
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The City Council in Boulder City wants the state to investigate whether the city police chief improperly tried to prevent information relating to a motorcycle club meeting in the city last June from becoming public.
Chief Thomas Finn is accused of ordering his officers to delete emails about preparations for the Mongols event to hide them from a possible public records request.
Destroying a public record is a felony in Nevada.
City Attorney Dave Olsen issued a report to the five-member council before Tuesday night's unanimous vote saying Finn didn't violate state law, but may have tried to.
Finn has been Boulder City police chief since 2006. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports he wasn't at the meeting.
Finn didn't immediately respond Wednesday to messages from The Associated Press.
