Half-naked man charged in northeast NV arson fires
ELKO, Nev. (AP) -- Elko County Sheriff's deputies are trying to figure out what triggered a bizarre situation outside of Deeth that sent a half-naked man to jail on arson charges.
Undersheriff Clair Morris says deputies found 47-year-old Tod Jerome Johnson dancing in a field clad only in socks and underwear in 30-degree weather about 6 p.m. Monday.
They were responding to a call that Johnson is accused of making to 911 to report a multiple shooting.
Deputies found no wounded, but had to put out two small brush fires Johnson is accused of starting.
Morris says Johnson may have been influenced by drugs. He says he became combative and allegedly kicked a paramedic and spit on a nurse at an Elko hospital. He's charged with third-degree arson, battery and unlawful use of 911.
