2 horses killed in crash that closes Reno highway
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A highway south of Reno has been reopened after an early morning crash killed two horses on the roadway on the north edge of Pleasant Valley.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says a woman struck and killed the horses on old U.S. 395 near Andrew Lane about 5:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Trooper Chuck Allen says a second driver struck and dragged one of the downed animals. Neither driver was injured. The highway was reopened about 8 a.m.
Allen says motorists need to be aware that traffic conditions have changed in the area due to the recent opening of U.S. Interstate 580. He says old U.S. 395 is a 50 mph zone and animals may be more confident crossing the freeway with the lighter traffic.
