Worker killed during construction project on I-15 near speedway
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man was killed while working on a construction project on Interstate 15 just north of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Wednesday morning, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
The accident happened shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The Nevada Highway Patrol received a call at 8:19 a.m.
According to NDOT, the man that was killed is an employee of one of their subcontractors working on a routine road maintenance project.
NHP says that the northbound lanes are open but traffic is restricted to one lane heading south. Traffic is expected to be slow in the area for quite some time.
According to Trooper Loy Hixson, the man was working on a guard rail in the median when the accident occurred.
Because it is a workplace accident, the investigation will be conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
OSHA says their investigation could take up to six months, and if it is determined that there were violations penalties might follow.
