Jury hearing death case in karaoke bar slaying
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A jury in Las Vegas is considering the death penalty for a 25-year-old Chinese immigrant found guilty of stabbing a man to death in a crowded karaoke bar over what authorities allege was a $10,000 gambling debt owed to an Asian gang.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Xiao Ye Bai bowed his head before the jury found him guilty Monday of multiple felonies including first-degree murder in the July 2009 death of Wen Jun "James" Li.
The same jury began Tuesday to decide whether to spare Bai's life.
Testimony is expected to continue Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Bai was acting for a gang called United Bamboo when he stabbed and slashed Li 32 times.
Bai's lawyers never denied he attacked Li, but argued he didn't intend to kill him.
