New video shows deadly fire tearing through apartment complex
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- New cellphone video shows the scene of the valley’s latest deadly fire just before crews arrived to help.
It happened Saturday afternoon at the Alpine Village Apartments near Charleston and Decatur Boulevards.
One man was found dead inside the apartment where the fire originated. In the video, witnesses are heard describing seeing the man sitting on his burning couch.
“All I heard was the couch is on fire, and so was he,” said resident Lucy Mangollado.
Mangollado, who lives directly across from the burning apartment, had a difficult time making her escape out of the smoke-filled building.
“I opened the door and all the smoke went through my chest and right now I am having chest pains,” she said.
As paramedics treated her for smoke inhalation, Mangollado watched as the fire took everything from her, except the clothes on her back, and her dog.
She and others who were left homeless by the fire are receiving temporary housing and other services from the Red Cross of Southern Nevada.
Estimates place the damage at around $200,000.
Officials will continue investigating what sparked the blaze.
