Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Catholic Charities is once again cooking up a massive Thanksgiving meal to feed those who might be hungry in the valley today.
Volunteers started cooking the feast at 3:30 a.m. today. More than 2,000 people are expected to come in for a free meal between 10 a.m. to noon today.
Executive Chef Juan Penate and his staff of 10 will be preparing: 1,000 pounds of turkey, 750 pounds of mashed potatoes, 500 pounds of corn bread stuffing, 60 gallons of giblet gravy, 600 pounds of green beans, 40 gallons of homemade cranberry sauce, 2,000 dinner rolls, 2000 butter cups, 2,000 individual homemade chocolate lava cakes, 2,000 cans of soda and 2,000 bottles of water.
The Catholic Charities St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility has been serving meals to the community’s homeless and needy men, woman and children since 1965. Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest day for the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility.
Anyone needing a meal -- not just the homeless -- is welcome to show up. The Lied Dining Facility is located at 1502 N. Main Street. The Thanksgiving dinner will be seved from 10 a.m. to noon.
