Witness describes fatal auto-pedestrian crash
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Henderson Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian. It happened when a man was trying to cross Boulder Highway on Tuesday night.
A witness told Action News what he saw happen.
"I heard a thunk, a squeal and some brakes. I looked out here and there was somebody laying out in the street," said David Sears.
Henderson police said a 56-year-old man was struck by a car in the southbound lane of Boulder Highway near Major. They're still investigating, but the driver had a green light. It does not appear that she was speeding or under the influence.
Residents in the area say it's dark, and it may have been hard for a driver to see a pedestrian at that time.
Another factor may be the traffic signal at the intersection.
Action News checked with the traffic department with the city of Henderson. They say Boulder Highway is a major thoroughfare, so traffic lanes are divided and pedestrians are only supposed to cross to the middle of the intersection in the allotted time. But many people attempt to cross the whole way, even when the light turned red.
Sears said he'll now think twice while crossing the street, after witnessing a pedestrian lose his life.
