Clark County, NV (KTNV) -- More than 7,000 Clark County School District students, from 37 schools, attended the kick off of the 2nd Annual Rebel Reading Challenge.

It took place at the Thomas & Mack Center on Wednesday.

Sponsored by the CCSD, SuperPawn and University of Nevada, Las Vegas Athletics, the 30-day challenge involves competing to see which classes can read the most pages.

The winning classes will win a trip to a UNLV men's basketball game and other prizes.

The kick off featured a friendly basketball competition between CCSD Superintendent Dwight Jones and UNLV President Neal Smatresk, as well as appearances from UNLV coaches and student-athletes.

Last school year, 34 schools participated in the challenge, reading more than 2.5 million pages.

The overall goal for this year is for the students to read 3 million pages.
