Three Square prepares to feed families this Thanksgiving
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The economy can make holidays tough, and that's why the community is so important for families in need.
This year, thousands of Las Vegas families will have Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Three Square Food Bank and Food 4 Less.
"I wish I could say the need is going away but it's still very very high," said Brian Burton, president of Three Square. "Almost 12 percent unemployment we have one out of five people in our community food insecure."
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it's an important time to put food on the table.
Three Square had about 1,000 turkeys to give out to local families, but they needed all the fixings. Food 4 Less stepped up to the plate and donated $13,000 worth of food to help.
This was a huge relief for a charity that has seen a decrease in donations and an increase in food prices this year.
"Food prices are up, the fuel is up and as you know we don't grow anything in the desert," Burton said. "So we're having to ship it all in."
A small donation here and there makes a big difference this time of year, giving many who don't have much something to be thankful for.
