Local small businesses weigh in on election results
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Before the election, we heard a lot of politicians talk about how important small businesses were to our economy. Now that the election is over, we decided to check in with a couple local business owners.
Overall, they seem relieved that the election is over. They say the last few months, there was a lot of uncertainty about what path our country would take. Now that they know who's in the White House, they can plan for the future.
When the construction industry in Southern Nevada slowed down, business also slowed down for Synthetic Turf Products. The local company had to lay off a number of their employees.
"I think everyone was looking for someone to blame," says Shannon Sweeney.
But she didn't want to, so she didn't pay too much attention to the national election, or the promises candidates were making.
"What goes on in rest of the country is important. But what happens here in Las Vegas, having people in better moods and the economy starting to grow or feel that way, that was more important to us."
If Governor Romney had won, there might have been some changes for her business' taxes or healthcare. Sweeney says she would have adapted, but she's happy she doesn't have to figure that out now.
Ii feel like we know which way we're going. We have an idea that we're going in the direction of increased economy, increased jobs."
Trivion McKenzie of CamelHump studios agrees. He was happy the candidates recognized the importance of small businesses like his. But he says ultimately, no politician could have helped or hurt him.
"Regardless of any policies out there, if I'm not willing to put in the hard work and dedication, then it will be hard to succeed either way."
He does say it's good to know who's in the White House and what their economic vision is.
"Now that the election is over and everything is all settled, we know what it's going to be like the next four years now."
