Video game company set to move to downtown Las Vegas
Las Vegas, (KTNV) -- Building number 302 on East Carson Street will soon be home to Take-Two Interactive Software, a video game company moving downtown.
"It's a shot in the arm for Downtown Las Vegas," City Council Member, Bob Coffin said. "It's a ratification of the efforts we are making to bring this place back to life."
If you look around, you'll see that downtown is undergoing a major revitalization and Take-Two will take part. The company, known for developing the video game "Grand Theft Auto," will relocate about 150 employees from its California division 2K West and it will hire local talent.
"They are able to find some talent they can use in their company and there is a lot of talent here that we haven't recognized as being available for companies in this business," Coffin said.
The city council is inspiring businesses to move downtown with cash incentives. On Wednesday, the city council voted to approve $600,000 in incentives for the video game company. Incentives like parking and office furniture for the building that also houses some Zappos offices. "I've lived down here for about two-and-a-half years now and our office has been down here for the past three months and every single day there is change," said Kristin Colbert, who works for Zappos. Colbert said downtown is becoming a co-workers capital that's booming with business and creativity. "It's a state of mind, it's not just a place and that means people like it here," Coffin said. The city said 2K West has a seven year lease on the building and the company is expected to generate $15 million for the city.
