Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- One of the big issues decided by Clark County voters on Tuesday was whether or not homeowners should pay more to help fund schools.
The proposed levy on property taxes would have collected near $670 million for building repairs and upgrades.
It was rejected by a large margin -- more than 30 percentage points.
The school district asked voters to increase their property tax rate by about 21 cents per $100 of assessed value on their homes.
The tax rate would have returned to its current level after six years, but voters opted for no new taxes.
It's the first time since the 1980s the Clark County School District failed to convince voters to back a capitol funding measure.
The District says it might be forced to close some schools over the next few years and transfer those students elsewhere.
