Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Republicans gathered Tuesday night at The Venetian to watch as polls closed and election returns came in across the nation.

About 2,000 people were expected to attend the watch party, everyone from campaign supporters to volunteers.

Attendees watched live coverage of the election returns on a big screen, and the night turned into mostly a subdued evening as President Obama's re-election was announced.

Mitt Romney campaigned heavily in the Silver State, making five stops in Southern Nevada in 2012.

Romney and running mate Paul Ryan's most recent visit attracted 6,000 supporters at the Henderson Pavilion.
