NV Energy sending utility crews to the East Coast

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A local utility company is sending crews to help restore power to areas affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Action News was there as two crews from NV Energy prepared their trucks and equipment for a trip to Long Island, New York. There the storm caused more than 1 million power outages.

7 trucks and 11 people from Southern Nevada will assist the Long Island Power Authority in bringing back electricity.

The United States Air Force will be transporting the crews and their equipment from Nellis Air Force Base by cargo plane.

They will be joined by an additional crew from NV Energy's northern offices.
