Parents protest closure of Boys & Girls Club in Boulder City
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Some families in Boulder City are frantic after finding out their Boys & Girls Club is set to be closed.
They just received the news last week that this Friday is set to the the club's last day.
Officials blame budget cuts. They say the Boulder City club has racked up losses of more than $60,000.
Eight Boys & Girls Club locations serve about 1,000 kids valley-wide, but the club in Boulder City only serves about 50. And as of Friday, it will only have one full-time person on staff.
Parents are upset about the closure. They say club officials knew in June they were in financial trouble. Now, the families are in financial trouble.
One alternative, The Boulder City Safe Key program, costs $9 per child per day.
Ken Rose says that's too expensive.
"What's that? $220 or $250 a month versus $20 a year for the Boys and Girls club? So it's a it's a big expense," Ken said.
The families hope someone will come forward with a donation or an option to help keep the club open.
