Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The death of young Faith Love last Halloween is being used in an effort to prevent other families from feeling the pain of such a tragic loss.

Love's mother spoke today and delivered a message urging safety.

12-year-old Faith Love died last Halloween night after she was struck by a vehicle while trick-or-treating in Summerlin.

This Halloween, Las Vegas police are implementing safety efforts in memory of the young.

In addition to increased patrols, they are also setting up checkpoints throughout the valley.

STOP D.U.I. is also helping out and encouraging everyone to use more caution.

The man accused of hitting Faith Love -- Justin Caramanica -- has pleaded guilty to the incident that killed Love and is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
