Make a Difference Day: Volunteers beautify areas around the Valley

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Local volunteers joined the nation's largest day of volunteering at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Saturday was "Make a Difference Day."
Locals helped spruce up the area by pruning shrubs, weeding, trail building, fence building and tree planting.
Staff at Red Rock said they rely on volunteers to help keep the area clean. "This is a very large national conservation area. It's about 200,000 acres and we have staff that provide a lot of services here, but our volunteers provide a lot of programs; a lot of on-the-ground activities that we could not do without them," said Mark Spencer, field manager at Red Rock Canyon.
Several other projects took place around the Valley Saturday, as part of "Make a Difference Day."
Volunteers planted trees in Henderson, and cleaned up areas around Mt. Charleston and Lake Mead.
