Mixed ruling raises advantage gambler questions
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- An appeals court has a mixed ruling for one member of the MIT blackjack team portrayed in the card counting-themed movie "21."
The case involves professional gambler Laurie Tsao, who was escorted from Caesars Entertainment casinos five times with warnings that she'd been trespassing.
But the company sent her targeted offers for free rooms, leading her back and to an arrest in 2008.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling, which dismissed Tsao's claims that a Las Vegas officer falsely arrested and defamed her. But the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the appeals court reversed a ruling that dismissed similar claims against Caesars.
Casinos are allowed to ask suspected card counters to leave with a warning on the first offense. Returning is a possible misdemeanor.
