Early voting off to strong start in Nevada
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Early voting is off to a strong start in Nevada, with more than 80,000 people statewide casting ballots in person over the weekend.
That compares with roughly 60,000 who turned out during the first two days of early voting in the 2008 presidential election.
The secretary of state's office on Monday says nearly 24,000 absentee ballots have also been received.
A breakdown shows 50 percent of people who voted in person are registered Democrats, while about 34 percent are Republicans. The remaining 16 percent are nonpartisan or affiliated with minor political parties.
Early voting runs through Nov. 2. After that, voters will have to cast ballots at their designated polling locations on Nov. 6.
