Metro partners with non-profit to provide basic needs for kids
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department took time out of fighting crime in Las Vegas, to fight another issue facing the city.
Tough economic times have fallen hard on many families around the Valley. Many parents are having a hard time even putting food on the table and can't afford basic needs for their children, like socks and underwear.
Metro and the Dream Center teamed up and donated basic items to hundreds of kids at Matt Kelly Elementary School Wednesday.
"To see the young faces, they don't really know that it's tough. They see mom and dad and they think everything is good, so we're trying to help mom and dad out as best we can," said Officer Richard Burrus.
Metro identified the school and its students as in need of such items, and the kids were overjoyed.
