County commissioners improve strip safety for pedestrians
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- County Commissioners have passed a new ordinance aimed at making the strip more pedestrian friendly.
Commissioners said they want tourists and locals to be safe when they're walking.
The new ordinance eliminates electrical cords and extension cords so pedestrians don't trip. It also eliminates juggling, swords and flame throwing.
Commissioners acknowledge the new ordinance may limit street performers, but said that isn't their intention and metro officers will determine which performances are safe on a case by case basis.
The ordinance goes into effect in two weeks, but Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani said metro officers will give people time to get adjusted before issuing citations.
