Will the construction on Decatur Boulevard ever end?
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Road construction is a necessary nuisance but some valley drivers say the work along Decatur is never ending. Businesses say it's hurting their bottom line. So when will the cones come down?
"It's a headache and it's a problem for all of us," said Andrea.
Bumper to bumper to traffic lines Decatur Boulevard between Vegas and Rancho drives.
"The last six weeks have gotten really rough around here," said Andrea.
We spotted many drivers putting on their left blinkers trying to merge in. At some parts, traffic is down to one lane and while locals see construction workers on the job they wonder what's taking so long.
"It is impacting the business here big time," said Andrea.
Andrea frequents Fast Break Lounge that's near all the chaos. She says some of her fellow regulars aren't stopping by as much. She thinks the cones are keeping the cash from coming in.
"We've got trucks moving in and out and it makes it very hard to get in and out," said Andrea.
Several drivers are asking Action News when their drive will return to normal. We called the City of Las Vegas and learned the job will continue through Nov. 30. Las Vegas Paving Corp. is replacing the pavement and modifying the medians.
"I think a lot of it can be done on graveyard when there's less traffic," said Andrea.
That's exactly what is going to happen. The City says to address noise concerns work is going to be split between overnight and daytime hours. In the meantime, drivers are asked to use Jones or Rancho to avoid the backup.
"With gas prices being so high nobody wants to go out of their way," said Andrea.
The City says the estimated cost for all that work is $1 million. During the peak traffic times they say they hope to be able to keep two lanes open on Decatur.
