Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Las Vegas firefighter accused of paying a homeless man to kill his estranged wife appeared in court early Monday morning.

40-year-old George Tiaffay was arrested for Shauna Tiaffay's murder along with 37-year-old Noel Stevens.

Shauna Tiaffay was found beaten to death inside her apartment in September.

Detectives said they discovered cellphone records that linked George Tiaffay to Noel Stevens, a homeless man that he hired to first burglarize the home of his estranged wife and then kill her for a fee.

Shauna Tiaffay was a cocktail waitress at The Palms for several years. Two of her friends were at the short court appearance Monday morning and described Shauna as sweet and always smiling and said that her 8-year-old daughter was her life.

Shauna Tiaffay's family has set up a Facebook page.

George Tiaffay and Noel Stevens were ordered to be back in court on Jan. 24, 2013.
