Nevada retailers expect higher Halloween sales
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Nevada retailers are predicting a jump in spending this Halloween, on everything from candy and treats to decorations and costumes.
The Retail Association of Nevada says if national projections hold true for Nevada, consumers will spend an estimated $118 million on Halloween goodies. That would be a 10.4 percent increase over the $107 million spent last year.
Nationally, retailers predict 71.5 percent of households will celebrate Halloween this year, up from 68.6 percent in 2011. The National Retail Federation says consumers report they will spend an average of $79.82 on decorations, costumes and candy, about $7.50 more than last year.
But the national group also says that roughly 25 percent of those who plan to celebrate Halloween say they will spend less this year because of the economy.
