Arrest report details Summerlin woman's murder
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Two men are locked up in connection with the death of a woman found in her Summerlin apartment. The arrest report is now available and shedding light on some disturbing details.
The report sheds light on why detectives suspect George Tiaffay in plotting his estranged wife's murder.
Tiaffay, a City of Las Vegas firefighter, told police he had just ended his shift on Sept. 29 when he and his 8-year-old daughter arrived at his wife Shauna's apartment.
That's when Tiaffay says he and his daughter walked in to the dining room to find the 46-year-old cocktail waitress lying on her back "with blood on her head and face." Shauna was found still in her cocktail waitress uniform with several injuries to her head.
Police later got a tip from a "concerned citizen" saying his friend Noel Stevens was paid to kill Shauna, and that he "hit the woman so hard with a hammer that the hammer broke."
A tip led police to this shopping center where Steven's was reported to hang out often and police found him in front of a gas station.
Stevens told police he's homeless and did odd jobs to earn money and that Tiaffay was one of his clients. Obtaining search warrants, officer's searched two areas where the homeless man set up tents.
What they found leads them to believe he burglarized Shauna's home earlier in September before killing her later that month.
At one location, a black dress was found -- same size as Shauna's. At the second, several women's thong panties and a pair of jeans with blood on the front later found to be Shauna's.
Several witnesses tell police Stevens was paid by Tiaffay to kill his wife. As police searched phone records they discovered Tiaffay was in constant contact with Stevens in the month of September, having called his phone 86 times.
They also discovered a replica key to Shauna's apartment they believe was made by Tiaffay at a Lowe's where Steven's hung out.
On Monday Tiaffay tried to kill himself unsuccessfully by crashing into a retaining wall when he discovered police suspected him in orchestrating his wife's death.
Sporting only cuts on his face he was arrested Tuesday at University Medical Center, George Tiaffay is held on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, burglary with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, and murder with a deadly weapon.
Noel Stevens is facing similar charges.
